blog reviews

Sara's blog about coffee addiction is pretty cool because for one part I was the inspiration for it. She saw how I had been having coffee a lot recently and then we had a big conversation about it. I liked how she included examples like stuff like Starbucks and how most of California has coffee daily.
Angelina's blog on cheerwiz was very interesting to read because us both being on the CAP cheer squad it was something I could relate to. Now i know another website where you can learn new and important tips for stunting safety, and tumbling.
Rebecca's blog on swimming was cool. It was random, so that made it way more fun to read. I liked how she talked about swimming in PE, mainly because people complain so much about it.
Kelly's blog about the De La Hoya vs. Mayweather fight was pretty interesting. I learned more about the outcome of the fight, even though sadly Oscar De La Hoya lost. I think that he should of won, but the judges ended up deciding on Mayweather. I liked how she added her own personal opinion and she didn't leave it all just fact.
http://alonzopn7.blogspot.com/2007/04/last-day.html"> Alonzo's blog about the day before the project was due was cool. He talked about how he reviewed his project before he turned it in and all that. It's good that he looked through it before he made the final copy. All the blogs weren't boring to read so that's a plus.

Caffeine Addiction

Many people talk about how people get addicted to cigarrettes or drugs...well many people don't realize that you can get just as addicted to caffeine. Many people depend on caffeine to give them energy and wake them up, it keeps them going through the day. This can get to be an addiction once the person has a necessity for the caffeine. While many adults might say that coffee isn't that necessary for them, you can tell they're not being completely honest when they go psycho without it. My mom loves coffee, but she admits that if she doesn't have her coffee she is going to be in a bad mood. Have you ever wondered why the majority of people who drink coffee are usually always hurrying or busy? Caffeine is what I'd say to be like a steroid, it makes your body feel energized and awake. This can help the people that are always doing something get their work done. Caffeine is a common ingredient in sodas as well, along with the sugar you can bet that people will be hyper. Just like drugs give that high that the user enjoys and cigarrettes get people addicted to the nicotine in them, caffeine addicts their drinkers to want and need it.

End of the Year

Well, so far we only have a little bit of time left in the schol year. I'm really excited for the summer. I'm going to Florida and I'm going to be able to hang out with my friends more than during the school year. I have to go to summer school, that's not fun, but I'll deal with it. At the end of this school year there's the rally, spring fling, year book signing and of course tears as you see some friends leave the school. Next year is gong to be different without many of my friends here, I'll miss them a lot. I just think that my first year at Capuchino was really interesting and hopefully next year is better, even though I doubt that. I really don't like some of the incoming freshman, but they'll learn not to act like they're all that and more once they get to CAP and see that that's not cool. I can't wait for the summer vacation, but what scares me is the fact that the year went by so fast.

Business Project

For my economics class we had to do a business project. I chose "La Tapatia", a mexican food and grocery store in South San Francisco. "La Tapatia" is owned by Humberto Campos and his partner Eloy. They opened "La Tapatia" 30 years ago from just having a bit of experience working at "Las Palmas" in the mission district of San Francisco. With very little physical capital available and only work experience as their human capital they opened up La Tapatia where there used to be an empty and abandoned lot on Grand Ave. (a commercial center in South San Francisco). From the day they opened they experienced shortages due to the popularity of the business. Now after 30 years in business they have loyal customers that even though they have had competitors open they always come back. When "La Hernandez" opened up their new location recently,"La Tapatia" lost some business for a short amount of time. Mr. Campos says that after they checked out the other place they came back to the familiarity , quality products, and excellent customer service level of "La Tapatia." They say that having to deal with the rules and regulations the governement puts on their business is routine, all you have to do is follow the rules and keep making your product, even if sometimes the rules make you change how you handle the product a bit. A Business License and the site permits are things necessary for the business to open, these were a simple process for the owners. The name has a story of it's own. Humberto and Eloy came up with the name for their business by looking back at their cultural background, where they grew up, and where the people who would be their future customers can relate to. La Tapatia came up because being from Jalisco, Mexico and seeing the culture brought up there it was just a normal and comfortable thing for their business to be called.

Stealing the President's Body

Stealing Lincoln's body has been a topic on many people's minds since 1865 (year of his death). President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865 by a gunshot to the head. Since then he has been a topic of interest for many people. What is little known is the scheme to steal the president's dead body in 1876. The plan was to steal the body from its tomb and take it to the Indiana dunes so that the state of Illinois would pay a $200,000.00 ransom for the body. The plan didn't work due to several reasons. One reason was that the tomb robbers were already suspects of other crimes such as counterfeiting, and they had been bragging to be the "boss body snatchers of Chicago." After they had tipped off the police and some burglars the trip to Springfield was made. Since there was no security other than a lock at the site they thought it'd be easy, but they were caught. They all ran to the worst place they could've gone to, The Hub, where they were arrested for the crime some days later. Now this plan didn't work, but there is a book by Thomas J. Craughwell to be released giving the details to this national robbery.

del.icio.us tags

I tagged irs.gov, sba.gov, and economist.com. I think these pages can help someone that's doing a business project. I'm doing a business project and I know that these websites will help me out with my research. Two of these pages are government websites so I doubt that there are many like them, but as for economist.com there are other websites out there that are like it. I doubt that this is a new idea because economics have been in society for a really long time. I doubt that this is the first time someone put something about them on the internet, but they probably are the primary websites for it. These websites can help me with the research I have to do for my business project.I tagged it by just searching for it on del.icio.us and then i clicked the tag button that's it. I tagged them because I thought that it'd help me when I need another reference for my project.

"Mi Familia" Part 2

My family consists of all the people that are around me and that I care about. I consider them my family because they are there for me and they are the people that I know I can trust. That's what families do and that's why I consider who is in my family as family. My family hangs out together and acts like a family I guess. My mom is the typical strict mom that tries to be the best friend at times. My Step dad is kind of clueless when it comes to being a parent type, he just leaves it up to my mom. My brothers annoy me for fun and my sister mimics everything I do. My family is just the people I'm around and even if they can get annoying they are always going to be there.

Earth Day

I didn't know Earth Day passed, or even if it's today. I know Earth day is a holiday and that everyone talks about stuff like global warming and protecting the environment, but I don't really pay attention to that holiday. I know that there is conventions where people talk about climate change and endangered species, but that happens all year round so why do they even have a holiday for that? Yeah, I know about the whole polar bear situation and how they're dying because the ice caps are melting, but I think that people shouldn't try to act all concerned about that stuff for one day of the whole year when it's happening all year long. By acting like you really care for a day you're not going to make much of a difference, you actually have to dedicate some time to it. I'm going to edit this post later....I have to add a video.

Internet Statistics

I read the internet statistics that Mr.H posted and I thought they were kind of surprising. With our generation now, practically everyone has a myspace. I was surprised to see that websites like that aren't the most viewed online besides search engines. I really don't think people lose their social lives if they use the internet a lot. Some people might use it too much, but your social life doesn't really depend on how much you're online. I think your social life depends on how you interact with people and how much you go out and aren't stuck doing nothing at home.

Fuzzy Logic

Fuzzy logic is "a revolutionary approach to computer programming that mimics the way the human brain thinks and solves problems ( www.pbs.org)." It is what is replacing the old way of programming used which was binary logic. Binary logic goes by on or off, which is basically just going "either or" (black or white). Fuzzy logic goes by what is partially on or off, it doesn't say something is completely off when it's only 70% off. It'll tell you by degrees like 30% on instead of 0 or 1. They are also cheaper to produce. I think that Fuzzy Logicis actually more accurate.

Mi familia

I think a family is the people that you are related to as well as the people you communicate with. Family doesn't have to be like a mom, dad, and kids. It can be your extended family, and even your close friends. If the people you care about support you in what you want to do and who you are then they are your family. In my family I have ,of course, my parents ,Irene and Arturo, and then I have my stepmom, Silvia, and my stepdad, Martin. I have my brothers Arturo Jr.(11) and Alvaro (9) and I have my sister Adriana (7). They are all younger than me, so there's usually not much to talk about with them. I have my cousins, aunts and uncles. I have some friends in my family circle because they are like family to me and I can trust them with anything.

My family is fun, even if they are kind of strict sometimes. I know I can have fun at a family party and not be bored in an adult conversation. they don't talk about boring stuff, they make it funny and I love being around my family. They have morals and standards that we all have to live by, but I understand why. My Grandmother's house is like going to charm school; she is always telling us how to be proper and lady like. The best part about my family is the uniqueness of everyone. There is a variety of interests so no one can ever get bored talking about something. There are some of us that like to listen to music and joke around and then there's the more artistic ones that just focus themselves on drawing. There are people with different talents, and that's what I think makes my family so interesting.

Some of the generations in my family overlap. I have an aunt that is 4 years old and her cousins are around 40. Her dad is only about 2 years older than many of his nieces and nephews. I guess this has to do with how years ago people would get married in their early teenage years. My grandmother married at 17 and my great grandma got married some months after her quinceanera. I think in a way the generations overlapping is a good thing, at least in my family. Everyone is closer because of this, there's no huge dividers between the generations mainly because the age groups blend with each other.

"Families evolve from a patchwork of possibilities"

I think this quote means that a family is a grouping of very different people that just seem to fit together into something that is right. There is the possibility that there will be that one green patch in the middle of a blue quilt. There can be that one person in your family that even though everyone else likes hip hop, they'll like rock, but they're still your family. Every person in a family makes up one piece of the quilt and you never know what color you're going to get, but the result in the end is really nice. It's interesting and every piece is unique even if they came from the same place. Families are like that.

What I learned from the projects

From the project I did with my partners I learned that PDA is something that people have different opinions on depending on what they think it is. Usually it's not acceptable for girls, but for guys it's not as important if they do it or not. I thought that was sexist.

I have to admit I was really bothered by the whole immigration project, because it seemed like it was directed towards Mexicans. I'm Mexican and my family immigrated over here just about 22 years ago. Yes, my family might have come over here legally, but we know many people who had to come overe here illegally. In fact not so longa go in San Bruno a family that we knew that lived on Huntington was deported after their lawyer had them sign a paper of some sort turning themselves into immigration. they didn't know they were doing this until they were forced to go back to Mexico and leave their family, friends, and newly remodeled home just like that. I learned that I'm always putting up a wall and not letting things get to me, but this really affected me after I thought about it for a while.

I think that these projects were pretty good, I learned more about racism, abortion, video games and stuff.

problem!!!

The project is due tomorrow and we have nothing except an online survey. This is a problem because we had started off great with a lot of interviews on video and we were going to make a 4 minute video but the camera was lost along with the memory disk that had all the interviews. Then we got more interviews done with a different camera and memory disk but Doug forgot to bring it so we could edit it and put it onto iMovie. We were also supposed to work on it during spring break but unfortunately someone (Doug) never answered his phone so we couldn't get more interviews and make the iMovie. Now we are going to try to get a podcast, a powerpoint, and maybe a little something extra going.

Investigative Journalism #3

So far I think that this project is going to be a little hard because people will tend to deny that they have been guilty of PDA. I also think that many people won't want to participate in our surveys and interviews. I'm hoping that we will be able to get enough of people to admit this on video. Another one might be being able to get together to work on the project. We're all pretty much busy a lot of the time, when one of us isn't the other ones are. I also think that the location where we interview people will affect the results a lot. I don't think we can form a stereotype.
I also think that people will have different opinions on the subject depending on what kind of PDA we ask them about.

Investigative Journalism Project - Complaint 1

The guys are calling me youngster and young'n. This is really annoying.

Investigative Journalism Project #2

I haven't really done any research yet. I did get some opinions on the project from my cousins and they said that it'd be a good idea, but that a lot of people might lie. I'm going to see if I can find any magazine articles on the topic and I'll start asking people.

Investigate Journalism Project #1

My investigative journalism project for Global Comm is on PDA (public display of affection). My partners for this project are Doug and Julian. What we are aiming to do with this project is to get people's opinion on PDA. For example, how would you feel if you saw people making out in public on a daily basis? Many people would say they wouldn't mind, but once they knew we meant passionately making out, then they would change their minds. While a lot of those people would still keep their opinions the same, maybe this is because they have done this themselves. The opinions will vary depending on who we ask, but hopefully this works out.
